Forum Title: Replace door threshold? [Step down into garage, slab underneath]
Since I've bought my new house I've noticed the threshold is loose that leads from the laundry room off of the kitchen into the garage. It's a step down into the garage. So I wanted to give it a try replacing it and I don't really know what I'm doing at this point. Pictures are attached. The threshold there right now is about 4.5 wide. About 1.5 of it hangs over, I can see a thick adhesive was place under it. But I wonder if that was too much overhang which may have caused it to get loosened up in the first place. So maybe I need a 3 wide threshold? I happened to buy this MD Building Products 3-3/4 in. x 36 in. Aluminum Deluxe Low-Rug Vinyl-Sealed Threshold-08102 - The Home Depot threshold a few weeks ago but I don't think it will work. I'm having a tough time finding one exactly line what I have now that's loose. Tile is in the laundry room if it's difficult to tell from the picture. Underneath the tile is the slab. Here are pictures:View image: 20160304 094737View image: 20160304 094750View image: 20160304 094757 I don't want to start prying up the old one until I'm certain I have the right kind to replace it with. Also, if I can see screws holding it in on the side can I get the whole thing out prying it up in the middle or will it be impossible without cutting through those screws? Thanks.

I don't measure the chains/cords. I brace the top sash all the way in the upper position then tie or attach the weight so it's about 1/4 -1/2 from touching at the bottom. If you are trying to estimate a needed length for ordering I not try to cut it too close as extra can be cut off but too short is too short.

I agree, install a 2x under the the front edge. A 1x might work if the overhang is less than 1.5

I use 1 X 6 PVC lumber Tap Coned to the foundation. There is not reason to replace the threshold that's there. Look up under the threshold, there's a 3/4 wide grove where the PVC slides into to make 100% contact.
